From Veronese to Banksy    Artists Facing Censorship


Banksy uses social media to promote his protest art while remaining anonymous, the women of Pussy Riot use social media to speak out against Putin.

Artists throughout history have managed to deal with censorship. Veronese challenged his Inquisitors over freedom of expression. Rod Serling chose to work in science fiction to avoid network censors and former slave Bill Traylor bore witness with his paintings during the reconstruction under great personal risk.

This timely talk speaks to the spirit of not only artists from the past, but young artists who are finding new ways to oppose censorship.
